Canals C-L

DVD - Coventry & Ashby Canals

DVD - Coventry & Ashby Canals

Ref: 735

The Coventry Canal is surprisingly rural, and there is plenty of interest to see, from the fascinating story of hatting in Atherstone, to the heartland of Britain's Motor Engineering heritage around Coventry.

The Ashby Canal is entirely rural and completely lock free. The focus of interest is at Market Bosworth where the Battle of Bosworth Field is regularly re-enacted. You can take a ride on the Battlefield Steam Railway.

Running time: 57 mins approx. DVD -R format. English PAL.

DVD - Grand Union Braunston to Birmingham

DVD - Grand Union Braunston to Birmingham

Ref: 1756

The Grand Union canal was created by the amalgamation of several existing canals. In the 1930s the narrow beam section from Braunston to Birmingham was deepened and widened to create a broad gauge canal capable of taking 70 tonne barges.

This programme covers the journey from one of the hubs of the canal network at Braunston through pleasant open countryside, through Royal Leamington Spa and Warwick, and finally right into the heart of Britain's second city, Birmingham.

Running time: 65 mins approx. DVD-R format. English PAL.

This title is paired with either the Grand Union South, GU Leicester Section or the Oxford Canal in the Double Disk section, and is part of the Grand Union Set in the Triple Disk section.

DVD - Grand Union Canal Southern Section

DVD - Grand Union Canal Southern Section

Ref: 2737

This completely new programme covers the old Grand Junction Canal, from its terminus at Paddington right through to Braunston. The Grand Junction was arguably the most important of all our waterways, linking London to the coalfields and industries of the Midlands.

Although never very far away from urban centres - many of which grew to importance because of the canal - this delightful wide beam waterway takes you through pleasant rolling countryside and through the pretty towns and villages of the Shires. Even within the M25 ring, much of it remains essentially rural in character.

Running time: 75 mins approx. DVD-R format. English PAL.

This title is paired with the Grand Union Braunston to Birmingham in the Double Disk section, and is part of the Grand Union Set in the Triple Disk section.

DVD - Grand Union Leicester Section

DVD - Grand Union Leicester Section

Ref: 736

The Leicester section of the Grand Union runs from Norton Junction, near Watford Gap, to Leicester, and takes in the Welford and Market Harborough Arms. There's plenty to interest the canal boater, with 3 tunnels, two staircase flights of locks and the inclined plane at Foxton.

At Leicester, the canal runs into the River Soar, and brings a complete contrast for the boater. A delightful meandering non-tidal river navigation, with attractive water frontages. The river gets deeper and wider as it winds its way to the confluence with the river Trent at Redhill, near Nottingham.

Running time: 58 mins approx. DVD-R format. English PAL.

This title is paired with the Grand Union Braunston to Birmingham or the River Trent in the Double Disk section, and is part of the Grand Union Set and the Sawley Set in the Triple Disk section.

DVD - Lancaster Canal

DVD - Lancaster Canal

Ref: 722

The Lancaster Canal has been isolated from the rest of the canal system ever since it was opened in the 19th Century. Nearly 200 years later, in 2002, the Millennium Ribble Link was opened, finally connecting the Lancaster, or 'Black & White' as it is known, to the rest of the canal system.

This DVD takes you on an exciting boating adventure from Tarleton on the Rufford Branch of the Leeds & Liverpool, onto the Rivers Douglas and Ribble, through the Ribble Link and the Lancaster Canal itself. Finally it visits the Northern Reaches, and includes details of the now firm plans to re-open that uniquely beautiful section to Kendal.

Running time: 57 mins approx. DVD-R format. English PAL.

This title is paired with the Millennium Ribble Link in the Double Disk section.

DVD - Leeds & Liverpool Canal Part 1

DVD - Leeds & Liverpool Canal Part 1

Ref: 727

At 127 miles long, the wide beamed Leeds & Liverpool Canal was the longest single canal ever opened in Britain.

This DVD covers the eastern section from Leeds up to the summit tunnel at Foulridge. This is a heavy duty canal, not for the faint-hearted. The locks are deep, wide and slow to operate, while many of the numerous swing bridges are now quite heavy with road traffic. But the rewards for cruising it are tremendous, for it's an exhilarating journey along the edge of the sheep-mown and grassy slopes of the Pennines through magnificent upland scenery.

Running time: 57 mins approx. DVD-R format. English PAL.

This title is paired with the Leeds & Liverpool Canal Part 2 in the Double Disk section.

DVD - Leeds & Liverpool Canal Part 2

DVD - Leeds & Liverpool Canal Part 2

Ref: 728

In part two of the Leeds and Liverpool canal we cover the western section from the summit tunnel at Foulridge right down into Liverpool itself. It includes the Leigh and the Rufford Branches.

You descend through the cotton towns of Nelson and Burnley to cross the latter at rooftop level on a spectacular embankment. The DVD is quite the best way to enjoy the Wigan flight of 23 locks. The last 35 miles into Liverpool are remarkably scenic, skirting past Aintree racecourse on the way.

Running time: 57 mins approx. DVD-R format. English PAL.

This title is paired with the Leeds & Liverpool Canal Part 1 in the Double Disk section.
